This week, Nutritional Therapist Lorraine Nicolle was with us at The Nutri Centre Park Crescent, with her seminar "Functional Medicine: A Nutritional Practitioner's Approach".

In recent years, the growing demand for a more integrative approach to healthcare has led to the increasing adoption of the functional medicine model. Using examples from the recently published book Biochemical Imbalances in Disease, this talk gave a brief introduction to the functional model by showing how a focus on the individual's biochemical imbalances, rather than on his/her disease or symptoms, is of the utmost importance in improving the patient's health.

Click below on the video to discover more on functional medicine.

The Nutri Centre Nutritionists watched this interesting seminar and kindly shared their expert opinions for you:
"The talk on Functional Medicine was a great introduction into the subject. The lecture was held by Lorraine Nicholle a Nutritional Therapist who also lectures at Thames Valley University and carries out nutrition education with Lamberts.

The Institute of Functional Medicine describes functional medicine as; ‘A science based patient centred health care approach to assessing, preventing and treating chronic complex disease.’

Lorraine looks at important factors including ensuring good communication with other practitioners, looking at the person not the disease and being patient centred.

Functional medicine looks at the person, to treat them and their imbalances and not the disease.

Lorraine goes on to discuss how everything that happens to you throughout life has a cumulative effect on the body. So it is important to look at the life history and the person as a whole, trying to change biochemical imbalances which have resulted over a life time.

Training is available in Functional Medicine. Look at www.functionalmedicine.org or www.bant.org.uk for further information."

Biochemical Imbalances in Disease, which is available on The Nutri Centre, is written by Lorraine Nicolle and other experts in their field.

Lorraine Nicolle MSc is a nutrition practitioner with a regular clinic at a London-based natural health centre. Lorraine is also a lecturer in nutrition and nutritional therapy at Thames Valley University. In addition, she undertakes nutrition consultancy and training for various organisations in the healthcare, educational and business consultancy sectors.

This week's seminar was on Face Reading, held by Philip Weeks, a Naturopath and TCM Practitioner. A really interesting seminar providing a great insight into a persons health and well-being through face reading...

Reading faces is an ancient tool that can give great insight into a persons health. Widely used in Chinese medicine as an essential aid to diagnosis, it can also be a valuable asset to understand yourself and other people better. Philip will explain the fundamentals of Oriental Face Reading with some examples of how the shape and marks on the face can indicate health problems and personality traits.

The Nutri Centre Nutritionists watched this week's seminar and shared their expert opinions with us:

"Weeks looks at ancient and more naturopathic measures.  He discusses that in face reading the bigger the ears the more the person is comfortable with taking risks. Smaller ears and the person is more reserved.

Wrinkles can be a sign of wisdom and emotions, with Crows feet related to joy. Grief is connected with the lungs and can be tracked by lines which run down the face.

Philip week discusses how heart disease can be related to the ear lobe, with a line on the ear lobe linked to hardening of the arteries.

He discusses lines above the top lip and below and links to healthy nourishment.

Philip Weeks Lectures on various workshops, with one this coming Friday on adrenal fatigue and a workshop this Sunday on tongue diagnosis."

Philip has always been interested in natural medicine and nutrition, and upon leaving school began training to be an alternative therapist. The youngest graduate in the UK to have qualified as a Master Herbalist, he went on to study iridology and various forms of energy medicine and naturopathic approaches. More recently, he completed a 3-year licentiate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading

The Nutri Centre's New Website (Coming Soon)

Posted by nutricentre 16 Nov 2010 1 comments

Back in February this year The Nutri Centre ran a customer survey to see how we could improve our website to ensure that our customers were getting the best online shopping experience.

Every comment was read and noted and we have been busy over the past few months taking into account your thoughts and we are delighted to announce that the brand new Nutri Centre website (www.nutricentre.com) will be launched on 19th December.

So what’s improved?

Using the latest website technology we have built a faster and quicker website that will ensure the best online experience for you. Taking into account all the feedback from the survey we have improved and implemented the following:

Product Information – We have added full product details to over 5000 products in the last week and are continuing to build each week to ensure that we will have a complete product database.

New brighter look and feel to the site

Search Box – Our new searchbox allows you to search for products and the more you type the more accurate the search will be with our new predictive text. You can also filter now by price, sort results and suppliers. Also our advanced search will allow you to “deep search” within a product description for any word.

Mini Cart – Unlike our previous website you can now add as many items to your basket as you like without going back and forth to the checkout page. The mini cart is always displayed on the screen so you can see exactly what you have without leaving the site.

Related products – If you have a product on your page you can also see what other customers who have purchased this product have bought. This is a great way to find other related products quickly. (This function is currently in progress.)

Linked products – Our dedicated team of expert nutritionists will recommend a product that is linked to another. This is also an improved way of searching for products relating to the one in your basket. (This function is currently in progress.)

Quicker navigation – We have rebuilt our site and it’s now operating up to 10 times faster than the previous version.

Product review – Like Amazon, we have a feature where customers can leave a review about a product they have purchased and if you’re considering buying that product, not only can you read the review but also like or unlike it. A good way of deciding if a product is for you.

Webcast Wednesdays - Every Wednesday The Nutri Centre broadcasts a live video from our Park Crescent store. Every week will feature a different subject and will be shown live from 7pm GMT at our BookStore. You can watch the event live or at any time after the broadcast.

There will be more features coming in the New Year to improve our new website even more and we will be running another customer survey in the New Year to engage your feedback once more.

Many thanks for all those customers who replied and we hope you enjoy the new website. An email will be sent to you shortly before its launch.

Wishing you all the best in health,

The Nutri Centre Team
