You might have read yesterday's famous Daily Mail article on 'beeauty' secrets of HRH the Duchess of Cornwall.

According to the article, the Duchess of Cornwall has been using Heaven (by Deborah Mitchell)'s Bee Venom Mask as an alternative to Botox.

This highly demanded product, created by beautician Deborah Mitchell, has suddenly become the new skincare phenomenon of this summer. A string of A-list celebrities, including Dannii Minogue are reportedly among the users of the Bee Venom Mask, says the article.

Marriage of Eastern and South American healing traditions and neurology, Facial Reflexology Sorensensistem TM works on the basis that the face is the front of the brain, which is the control centre of the body. By working on facial body maps, FRS seeks to initiate a re-balancing process within the individual to restore homeostasis and therefore, better health.

The face is also an organ of communication and as a result, the aesthetic benefit of working on the face for a full 45 minutes is an important. 'I look good therefore I feel great about myself' factor.

In this talk Nikke will explain the history and underlying principles of Facial Reflexology Sorensensistem.

Four Steps To A Perfect Beach Body

Posted by nutricentre 27 Jul 2010 0 comments

1)    Action plan for smoother thighs

a.    Gently exfoliate

Harsh exfoliants can disturb the skin’s regeneration rhythm and damage its protective barrier function. Gentle, natural treatment is what’s needed.

Birch Body Scrub (150ml) unburdens the skin, gently massaging away only dead skin cells. Used regularly, it leaves skin feeling silky, cleansed, and ready to receive oils and lotions.

The unique blend of natural ingredients is so kind it’s suitable even for sensitive skin. Beeswax, carnauba wax and castor oil plant wax, bound into round pearls, gently massage skin, and are held in a creamy, gentle plant cleanser base derived from coconut.

Other ingredients include organic sesame seed oil, apricot kernel oil, ruscus, organic rosemary and fresh citrus essential oils. The key ingredients - organic birch leaves - are known for their purifying and detoxifying effects.

Recommended use: Once weekly

b.    Invigorating massage

In 56 days cellulite can be significantly improved - so found trained independent assessors asked to study ultrasound images of daily use of Birch Cellulite Oil (100ml). Even within 28 days tests showed significant improvements in skin elasticity and firmness.

Young, organic birch leaves, rich in flavonoids, are the key ingredient, used for their ability to purify and encourage metabolic activities.

Other organic ingredients are rosemary leaves, to stimulate circulation and metabolism, ruscus (Butcher’s Broom) traditionally used for anti-inflammatory and diuretic effects, apricot kernel oil, a rich source of essential fatty acids, wheat germ oil for its skin-friendly vitamin E, and jojoba oil to nourish and keep skin smooth and supple.

To massage in the oil, use moderate pressure and in circular movements work upwards, towards the heart.

Recommended use: Daily

c.    Tips for body brushing, from Weleda’s Beauty Advisor, Loraine Murry

Dry brushing is widely recommended to exfoliate and stimulate circulation in areas prone to cellulite. To get started:

• Buy a good quality natural bristle brush or loofah
• Commit to brushing every day and do it before your daily shower
• Work from toe to top, making sure that strokes are always towards the heart
• Moderate pressure. Go lighter on areas like the chest and firmer where skin is thicker like the soles of the feet
• Use a circular motion five to size time for each movement
• Avoid any areas where you have a skin infection, rash or open wound

Independent Trials

The results of a 28 day trial showed a significant reduction of cellulite:
•    Elasticity – Average increase of 22% in skin elasticity after 21 days
•    Smoothness – Average increase of 21% in skin smoothness after 28 days
•    Measurements – Average reduction in thigh circumference of 3.95 cm after 28 days

2)    Cool and Refresh

After-Sun Lotion is a rich, easily absorbed lotion with a wonderfully fresh scent that deeply rehydrates, cools and soothes skin after sun exposure.
Award-winning Rejuvenating Mask is a holiday must-have. This miracle worker soothes, rehydrates and revitalises the delicate skin of the face. Nurturing plant oils and extracts soothe and infuse sun-stressed skin with refreshing moisture and antioxidants, helping you to maintain a beautiful and long-lasting tan.

Instructions for use
Apply After-Sun Lotion liberally to your skin after sunbathing or time spent in the sun.

Apply a liberal layer of Rejuvenating Mask to your face and neck after cleansing and toning. During this time you may find that in certain areas your skin has absorbed the mask completely. In this case, simply apply some more; it is thirsty for nourishment! Remove any excess after 20 minutes using a warm, loosely wrung out flannel or muslin compress.

Hints and tips
After-Sun Lotion is particularly suitable for delicate and sensitive skin.
In cases of sunburn, you can apply a very thin layer of Rejuvenating Mask to the affected areas before applying your usual moisturiser and make-up. Then it can work on your skin all day.

3) Moisturise your skin with Alva Sanddorn Body Lotion

In Tibet, sea buckthorn oil has been valued as an effective protection against the sun's potentially harmful UV rays for many centuries. In fact, sea buckthorn has a natural SPF factor of 4.

Alva’s Sanddorn Body Lotion is rich in organic sea buckthorn oil that contains provitamin A, vitamin E and non- saturated fatty acids such as olein and palmitoleic acid. That's why Sanddorn products are ideal for sun damaged skin as well as mature skin; ageing and sun exposure cause our skin to lose its ability to retain moisture and elasticity, both of which are common symptoms of premature skin ageing, and it’s this inelasticity that makes skin prone to wrinkling.

Sea buckthorn promotes regeneration, especially with UV-related irritation and sunburn, and this body lotion works exceptionally well in conjunction with Sanddorn Skin Oil when healing and re-hydrating sunburned skin. Independent dermatological tests reveal that when treating sunburn, Sanddorn Body Lotion accelerates healing by a remarkable 86%.

Combined with jojoba oil, this sea buckthorn rich body lotion is absorbed quickly and visibly increases the amount of moisture the skin retains.

Sanddorn Body Lotion is certified organic and is free of parabens, petrochemicals and is also alcohol-free.

4) Step out with confidence this summer

For most of us our feet never cause us concern until we have to expose them, and as well as being unpleasant to look at, cracked and calloused skin is uncomfortable too. Thanks to Alva’s acclaimed Anti-callous Balm, calloused cracked skin can be quickly banished.

Tea Tree and Manuka Oils help to reduce calloused skin, and white willow helps to ease the discomfort caused by cracked skin. Anti-bacterial manuka oil and anti-fungal calendula help keep foot odour in check and athlete’s foot at bay.

Dermatological tests show a 75% reduction of hard, calloused skin in 28 days. Click here to view our 4 step products.

Shamanism, the world's oldest healing and problem-solving technique is estimated by archaeologists to have been part of global human activity for at least 40,000 years and possibly very much longer. Although our world has changed vastly since that time, our brains have not and shamanism continues to offer an almost limitless range of solutions to anyone needing help with modern life challenges.

Shamans understand that everything is one, and that illness and disease, whether mental, physical or emotional are caused by spiritual imbalance, which can be discovered and resolved by the shaman during the healing 'journey'.

This talk will explore how those same consciousness-altering techniques that our cave-dwelling ancestors used to help them survive disease and injury in a dangerous world are still available to each of us today.

Zoe Bran's background is in academics and writing about travel and sexuality. Her PhD, in AIDS/HIV, explored the relationship between society, disease and human rights. Zoe studied shamanism with The Scandinavian Centre for Shamanic Studies and has worked in this field since 1998. She is a full-time shamanic practitioner, writer and educator whose purpose is to make shamanism accessible to the general public and in the workplace.

Biolab provides a range of tests to explore gut function in terms of permeability, and fungal and bacterial dysbiosis, without the need for an endoscopy. Our gut permeability profile over a range of molecular weights provides a snapshot of gut health. Traces of alcohol in the blood following a controlled glucose loading dose indicate the presence of abnormal fermenting flora, whilst breath hydrogen and methane measurements can identify bacterial infections in the stomach and small intestine (and can also confirm intolerance to a range of sugars).

It is easy to ignore toxins. They can be microscopic eliciting no immediate or obvious symptoms, yet we are all loaded with them. You cannot live in the 21st century without being exposed to them, thousands of them, in the environment, applied to your skin, in the air you breath, and the food and drink you ingest, plus those you generate within your body in response to all else you are doing. They can do enormous harm, harm that is often not recognised until it has become serious.

Vitamin D - The Sunshine Vitamin!

Posted by nutricentre 6 Jul 2010 0 comments

Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin that is found naturally in some foods, such as fish and eggs.  It is also known as the 'sunshine vitamin' because our body actually makes most of its own supply through the action of the sun's UVB rays on the skin.

Vitamin D's best known role is maintaining a healthy calcium balance in our body and building strong bones and teeth.  It may also help to support the immune system and is thought to be involved in brain function and mood, maintaining a healthy cardiovascular system and blood pressure, and supporting insulin release to sustain normal blood sugar levels.

Lack of exposure to sunlight and use of high-factor sunscreens and sunblocks can lead to less-than-optimal levels of this essential vitamin in our body. We can top up our levels, however, with a good vitamin D supplement.

Hormones pretty much rule our lives whether we like it or not. A sense of control, an ability to counteract or balance these tricky co-habitees brings a great sense of wellbeing, peace, stability and energy.
Find out more how to simply alter these hormone patterns and disorders using herbs and kitchen foods. For instance any of the herbs I use in my clinic work the opposite way to drugs in that they don't supply the answer in a direct biochemical way which can overwhelm or underwhelm a given situation. Herbs are often more sophisticated in that they dialogue with the body and unilaterally decide how much of what is needed and when, in order to gently correct an imbalance.

Jill Davies, F.A.M.H, PhD is a Herbalist and Natural Healer of 30 years. She has run both many clinics and her business selling herbal formulas during this time. She also teaches the subject and once owned a small herb school. She has written on her subject and has had over 14 titles out in her name over the years. Her love of this subject is still her passion together with plants and gardening, her formative training being in Horticulture at The Royal Botanic Kew and The Royal Horticulture Society, Wisley. Jill is a member of the Association of Master Herbalists, of which she was a former Chairman and also member of the British Herbal Medicine Association.
