The microenvironment of the Gastro-intestinal tract is a complex and mysterious world; to look into it is to witness a place less charted and more misunderstood than the universe all around us. In the last century, much research has been done on the microorganisms that reside within us but this represents a drop in a never ending ocean.
In his latest Nutricentre talk Edward will take you on a journey through the gastro-intestinal tract and point out a few of the organisms we know to be part of the health running of the digestive system and a few organisms that we know to quite unhelpful. Using his Knowledge and experience with herbs and nutrition he will show how we can work with that complex universe within to maintain good health and keep potentially harmful organisms to a minimum.

In conjunction with Allergy UK, The Nutri Centre will be supporting Food Intolerance Awareness Week (23rd-29th January 2012) at our Tesco Extra Dudley Store, helping Dudley residents identify and eliminate problem foods from their diet.

Recent research conducted by Allergy UK reveals that a staggering 45% of the UK population suffer some form of food intolerance[i] with symptoms ranging from fatigue, bloating and IBS, to eczema, joint pain and arthritis. Head nutritionist at The Nutri Centre, Shona Wilkinson, believes that food intolerance is often overlooked by GPs, “Many people will visit their doctor with digestive problems and will be given medication to treat these symptoms. Food intolerance is often not tested and so the symptoms persist.

Monday 23rd: Meet the nutritionists. Nutritionists will be available all day to talk to customers about the range of symptoms associated with food intolerance and will be providing personal expert advice for visitors in-store.

Tuesday 24th: Afternoon tea. ‘Free From’ afternoon tea will be available from 2pm featuring a selection of gluten and yeast free sandwiches and cakes, and lactose and caffeine free tea. Many people diagnosed with a food intolerance can experience difficulties finding new foods to cater for their diet, and may miss staple foods such as bread and milk. The afternoon tea is a great opportunity to try out some delicious substitutes and find out about ‘free-from’ foods – one of the most popular ranges at The Nutri Centre Dudley.

Friday 27th: Kids day. Recognising food intolerance in children. Expert advice will be available to help parents offer tasty alternatives to foods that seem to trigger symptoms. Free product samples such as dairy and lactose free milk will be available to taste in-store. There’s an opportunity for parents to find out more about childhood food intolerances, speak to the experts and take away some free-from food recipes that kids will love.
All events will be held at: The Nutri Centre, Tesco Extra Dudley, Town Gate Retail Park, Birmingham Road, Dudley, West Midlands, DY1 4RP
To book your visit to the event or to arrange an interview with one of the in-store nutritionists please email Ruth Delacour or Rachel Bonny at CCD Public Relations: ruth@ccdpr.com / rachel@ccdpr.com. Goody bags and prizes are also available throughout the week.

Free Talk on Wednesday 11th January - Fat Consumption & Immunity: What's On Your Plate with Dr Nina Bailey, PhD
It is not simply the amount of fat that we consume but more specifically the type of fat that affects our health. Both saturated and trans-fat are now well established to be the ‘bad-boys’ within the classification of fat. In contrast, both mono- and polyunsaturated fats have a more favourable effect on health and we should strive to reduce our intake of ‘bad’ fat and replace it with healthier oils.

Free Talk on Wednesday 21st December - Low Back Pain & Sciatica Take Control & Resolve Your Pain with Paul Boxcer, Physiotherapist
Through my years of experience of treating people with low back pain and sciatica, I undoubtedly believe the majority of suffers with this type of pain can resolve the pain themselves, as long as they know what to do.
This is possible due primarily to two facts:
The vast majority of low back pain & sciatica is widely accepted by the health profession as being non-specific low back pain, where no one single structure can be truly identified as being the source or cause of pain.
Your body’s innate desire to heal itself of any injury it encounters, including low back pain and sciatica.
My talk at The Nutri Centre will elaborate on these two facts and also provide you with some useful tips on how to help resolve your pain. There will also be time afterwards to ask a few questions.
In the meantime, if you wish to read more about my talk at The Nutri Centre or ask any questions in advance of the talk, take a look at my website www.spinal-health-care.com/nutricentre or email me on paulboxcer@spinal-health-care.com
